Our Story
In the fall of 2012, Dr. Brock and Pastor
Kan’Dace moved from San Antonio, Texas to serve a church in Grand
Rapids, Michigan. God did some amazing things there, and their impact
was felt across the state of Michigan. However, in the fall of 2014,
they knew their assignment was complete. God called them to move back
home to San Antonio. Shortly after their arrival, they had the honor of
serving as co-pastors of the Joint Base San Antonio Lackland Gospel
Service. During this three-year period, they began to feel the Holy
Spirit prompting them to start a God-honoring church in San Antonio, a
community of Christ-followers who would be real, relevant, and
relational.
Believing in the spiritual disciplines of fasting and prayer, Dr. Brock and Pastor Kan’Dace spent 2015 doing exactly that. They then met with their pastoral mentors and reached out to church planting organizations who would give them the professional coaching and training needed to start a growing church. They wanted to be prepared to launch a church with the capability of making a major Kingdom impact in San Antonio, Texas and beyond.
The Message Church
found a home
To that end, The Message Church found a home in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF), a Christian network of churches working together to spread the hope of Christ. In the fall of 2016, Dr. Brock and Pastor Kan’Dace completed CBF’s eight-week intensive church planting discernment curriculum. In 2017, they attended CBF’s annual congress and week-long church planters intensive in Atlanta, Georgia. November 2017 saw The Message Church host its first weekly Bible study.
The Message Church
was officially launched
On April 1, 2018, at 8:00 AM Resurrection
Sunday, The Message Church was officially launched. Additionally, TMC
is supported by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Kingdom
Council of Interdenominational Christian Churches and Ministries. We
invite you to partner with us as well, as we are, “Changing Lives and
Changing the World.”
What We Believe
In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things charity.” – Augustine
The Message Church is a Christ-centered,
Bible-based, Baptist church. The core of our belief is articulated in
the following way:
Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living
God, and we proclaim Him Lord and Savior. In Christ’s name and by His
grace, we accept our mission of witness and service to all people. We
rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in the covenant of love,
which binds us to God and one another. Through baptism into Christ, we
enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of
God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit, we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ. At the table of the Lord, we
celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ. Within the universal church, we receive the gifts of ministry and the
light of scripture. In the bonds of Christian faith, we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose Kingdom has no end.
Furthermore, we believe that our identity
as a community is lost and found in the identity of Jesus Christ. In
Luke 4:18-19, Jesus spoke these words about His identity:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for
He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to
proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that
the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor
has come.”
Out of this Christ-centered liberating identity, we believe that we exist to change lives and change the world.
